CDG Installs Second Custom Tower Simulator
Burlington, MA., February 02, 2021 – UFA, Inc. (UFA), a leading provider of Air Traffic Simulation and Voice Technologies, collaborated with the DSNA Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Simulation Team to create a new miniSIM. As the COVID-19 situation dramatically affected the number of planes in Paris, the goal is to keep the skills of the ATCO high enough to maintain safety until high-volume traffic fully returns.
The CDG Simulation Team took inspiration from the last year’s UFA User Group Meeting and imagined solutions to solve the training problem caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. After presenting their needs and ideas to UFA, the two groups united to conceive the plan for a miniSIM. The CDG miniSIM is made of seven 65 inch 4k screens functioning in portrait mode with two controller positions and five pseudo pilots stations. The technology chosen, based on screen display instead of projection will give CDG more independence, flexibility and reliability. The controller positions were designed to be adaptable for future operational evolutions. The installation by the CDG Simulation Team was assisted remotely by UFA in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions.
In addition, to the 360-degree ATTower simulator which was recently upgraded by DSNA in
co-orporation with UFA’s partner VISCON GmbH to utilised 98” screens, the new simulator allows CDG to double the capacity of training for ATCOs on Tower and Ground positions. As with the 360-degree ATTower simulator, this miniSIM will also be used by the two other main airports in the Paris area, Paris- Orly and Le Bourget, for initial and continuous training. From conception to the first exercise execution the co-ordination for the miniSIM took less than four months.
